A plethora of advances made by the XRPL developers in terms of solidifying XRP’s usage have enhanced the coin’s adoption rates. The creator of popular XRPTipBot, a platform that enables sending and receiving of XRP tokens on social media platforms like Discord, Twitter and Reddit,  XRPL Labs’ Lead Developer Wietse Wind was on the forefront of the latest technological advancements to push for XRP adoption. While XRPTipBot has gained traction and recorded 464369 tips since December 2017 with a total tipping amount of 1499487 XRP, another tool created to up the game, was XRP Text which enabled users to send XRP using text message. According to its official site, users can send a text message to two XRP bots.

“You can send commands by sending a text message to one of the XRP Text bot numbers: +3197004499330 and +16502977977. By sending a message to the XRP Text bot, you can deposit, withdraw or send funds to another mobile phone number.?”

When sending funds, the sender as well as the recipient will receive a text message, enabling the sender to send XRP to people who have never used XRP Text before. User funds will be stored in XRP Text wallet. The bot cannot integrate with sender’s messages and contacts, when the user sends a message to the bot, the bot will update the sender as well as the recipient’s funds on a central database and then confirm “the mutation by sending out another text” which looks something like this:

Text messages are not 100% secure. Hence, the official website advised users to keep a low balance in the account.

Still in its public beta testing phase, XRP Text, encountered a technical glitch which was soon resolved. Wietse Wind had recently tweeted about fixing a bug that affected one user and subsequently added two commits on Github.
