Telecom giant AT&T now accepts cryptocurrency
American telecommunications company AT&T announced that its customers can now pay their bills using cryptocurrency. The company claims to be the first mobile carrier to provide a cryptocurrency payment method.
AT&T has partnered with BitPay, a Bitcoin service provider, to process online bill payments. Customers can pay their bill using Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, instead of cash or credit.
The company additionally suggested that customers would be able to select BitPay as a payment option when they logged on to their accounts online or with the myAT&T app.
Kevin McDorman, Vice President of AT&T Communications Finance Business Operations, suggested that the company is always looking to expand and improve its services. He said,
“We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our services. We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer.”
A number of companies have recently adopted cryptocurrency as a payment method. Many retailers, like Whole Foods, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, and more, have announced the adoption of cryptocurrency through a mobile wallet called SPEDN.
BitPay also announced the collaboration on Twitter and received mixed reviews, with some customers rooting for it and a few others weren’t very happy with it.
