Payment provider NOWPayments announced support for Filecoin payments right after launch
The news of Filecoin’s mainnet launch has been anticipated by both crypto businesses and the entire crypto community at large, no doubt.
With several major exchanges listing Filecoin’s native FIL token ahead of launch, crypto payment gateway NOWPayments has done its best to keep up with the crypto giants.
The company has announced that we have begun the necessary preparations to support Filecoin on October 15th, 2020, and has enabled FIL payouts on October 16th, 2020.
“We believe that Filecoin’s mission is what the entire crypto world had been waiting for – as OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive are raising concerns with their file storage policy, a decentralized peer-to-peer file storage system is a necessary step to the existence of fully decentralized Internet, independent of authorities”, said Pauline Shangett, NOWPayments’ CMO.
Filecoin’s FIL token, the asset that supports the entire infrastructure, brings great proven utility to the project – by giving network participants the incentive to provide their file space for other people to use.
“NOWPayments is hoping to give FIL one more layer of utility – by providing people with an opportunity to pay with FIL in various stores, give FIL donations, as well as accept FIL in their businesses, as donations, tips, so on and so forth”, Shangett added.
Filecoin, created by a company called Protocol Labs, is a decentralized file storage network. Filecoin is set meant to enable anyone to buy and sell unused storage on the network using their native token FIL. In 2017, Protocol Labs raised $200 million in just 30 minutes via an ICO, and the project has been in development ever since. The mainnet was set to launch in March of this year but has been delayed several times until October 15th, 2020.
NOWPayments, developed by the team behind the instant crypto exchange service ChangeNOW in 2019, is a non-custodial cryptocurrency payment system.
