Craig Wright requests more time for negotiating settlement deal with the Kleiman estate
Craig Wright has filed a document with the U.S District Court of the Southern district of Florida, requesting more time for negotiating a settlement deal with the Kleiman estate. The request was filed on 17 September and asks for a 30-day extension from the court to settle the negotiation.
The filed document read,
“The parties are currently engaged in good faith settlement discussions. To that end, Dr. Wright and Plaintiffs respectfully request a 30-day extension of all discovery and case deadlines to facilitate these discussions.”
Ira Kleiman, the brother of Wright’s late business partner Dave Kleiman, had filed a lawsuit against the infamous Australian entrepreneur who claims to be the creator of Bitcoin for $10 billion, while accusing him of trying to seize Dave’s Bitcoin holdings.
In late August, Judge Bruce Reinhart had ruled in favor of the Kleiman estate, ordering Wright to hand over half of his Bitcoin holdings, along with other intellectual properties before 2014.
Wright’s latest filing before the court comes right before the final judgment is finalized. The filed document claims that both parties are involved in extensive settlement negotiations, and both parties have arrived at a “non-binding agreement in principle to settle this matter.”
Wright’s legal representative, Rivero Mestre LLP., claimed that the negotiation deal is being conducted keeping the interest of both parties involved and thus, the court should grant them another 30-day extension. The counsel is also planning to oppose Judge Reinhart’s previous sanction dated 24 September.
The Kleiman estate has also supported the motion filed by Craig Wright asking for an extension of 30-days, claiming it would indeed help them finalize the settlement. During the proceedings of the lawsuit, the judge did not find Wright’s claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto credible and the documents submitted by Wright to back up his claims were found to be misleading, as well as forged.
