Founded in 2007, eToro is the world’s leading social trading platform, offering an array of popular cryptocurrencies, simple functionality, and unique trading features. We’ll provide a step-by-step walkthrough of the platform to give you a sense of how it works and the best ways to use it.

Registration

Funding

Next, you need to select your payment method, and deposit funds into your new eToro account. You can do this by selecting the Deposit Funds button from the menu and then choose your preferred payment method.

Now go explore!

Now that you’ve completed all the necessary steps to get your account funded and ready to go, you have many options to choose from. We’ll list them in the order that we think would be most helpful to the average consumer with little knowledge of crypto trading.

Virtual sanity

This is a great place to start because you don’t risk any real money. eToro provides you with a $100k virtual account that follows the market in real-time, but all the money is pretended. So you can try your hand at trading and watch your coins rise and fall in value without the risk. Get used to what it’s like: how to trade when to trade, and all the other features eToro has to offer.

How to trade

Search for the asset you’d like to trade and then select Buy/Trade. There are several trade markets available on which you can buy or trade assets, comprising Crypto, ETFs, Stocks, Indices, Commodities, and Currencies. Certain markets are restricted in certain locations for regulatory reasons. You will see the markets available to you within your geographical location. In the US, only cryptocurrencies are available for trading.

You’ll be prompted to input a dollar/unit value equivalent to the amount of the given asset you’d like to buy. As you’ll see from the Market Watch screen, prices are volatile and can increase or decrease at any time. You decide when and how much you’d like to purchase, and when you’ve made up your mind, select Open Trade.

Your personal portfolio

Your trades will appear in your portfolio. Here, you can track their progress, monitoring their profit and loss (P/L). All your trading activities will appear in this section.

Feed your head

Join the conversation! Select the News Feed icon from the menu and see what millions of other eTorians are posting about.

Dive deep into the coin

Click on any asset to see its profile. Here you can follow and contribute to the conversation about this asset in the feed, see its charts, and geek out on the stats. eToro offers many ways to make an educated decision about which asset to trade and when.

CopyTrader

Select the CopyTrader icon on the menu to browse Popular Investors. Anyone of these can be “copied,” as a part of eToro’s CopyTrader feature. This means that you can allocate a number of funds of your choosing to copy all the moves and trades of a Popular Investor, and eToro will automatically make these same moves and trades in real-time. It’s a great way to adopt the expertise of savvy investors without having to do anything yourself!

CopyPortfolios

For users in the US only:

eToro offers ready-made portfolios of cryptocurrencies, each based on a different methodology. Some are more straightforward, such as Cryptocurrency, which gives you exposure to the two most popular coins (Bitcoin and Ethereum), and some are more complex, like the Tie-LongOnly, which uses a listening algorithm to discern Twitter sentiment on rising coin popularities and allocates funds accordingly. All of these portfolios are monitored by eToro’s US investment committee, so if you’re looking for a way to diversify your portfolio with Crypto, and are not sure which cryptocurrency interests you more, allocate some funds to a CopyPortfolio.

For users outside the US, there are several other CopyPortfolio types. View them here. (CopyPortfolios)

Selling & Withdrawing

When you’re ready to close your position, simply click on the X next to the position in your Portfolio. You’ll be prompted with a popup asking you if you’d like to “Close Trade.” Select that button and the funds you have allocated to that position — including any profits — will go into your cash balance (you can view your cash balance on the Portfolio page at the bottom, just above where it says “Available.”

There is also the History button if you want to see the history of the positions that you have closed. To do this, click the anticlockwise icon in the bar at the top of the page.

When you’re ready to withdraw cash, select the Withdraw Funds icon on the menu. You’ll be asked how much you’d like to withdraw and which method you prefer (don’t forget, methods vary according to your location).

Regardless of the method of transfer, you should receive your funds within a few days, although again, this can vary according to the payment method and location.

 Questions? Try the Help Center!

Select the HELP CENTER icon on the menu if you have any questions. Simply type in your question and it’ll search through a pool of hundreds of answers to find the one right for you.
